Who is Staffordshire University?

Staffordshire University has been on a transformative journey over the last 5 years, achieving UK top 50 League Table rankings, TEF Gold standard in Teaching and Learning, and recognition as the “Connected University” through working with our community and region. Business minded, industry engaged, research applied, technologically savvy and digitally leading, we provide an outstanding education for our students, preparing them for the jobs of the future.

Many of our students come from areas with low rates of participation in higher education and we continually strive to ensure the courses we offer meet the needs of people and employers. We are expanding our non-traditional, flexible study options, particularly in apprenticeships serving the public sector.

Under the leadership of our new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Martin Jones, we are embarking on the next exciting phase of our strategic development.  This includes expansion of the Staffordshire Business School, whose five-year plan is centred upon growth and diversification of our taught courses and research profile.  Our new taught postgraduate courses will go live in 2022 and be followed by a set of completely new undergraduate awards in 2023.  Alongside this, we are increasing the breadth of our successful portfolio of apprenticeships and the number of employers with whom we work.

On our Stoke-on-Trent campus, the new £40m Catalyst Building will deliver 6,500 new apprentices in the next decade, boosting both the local and national economy. The development of our offer to new academic areas and geographic locations will see us expand our reach and make an innovative offer to a new generation of students.

This is a time of great opportunity for Staffordshire University. If you are keen to pursue a stimulating, challenging and professionally fulfilling career, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

We are now looking to appoint a significant number of highly motivated Lecturers and Senior Lecturers to join our growing interdisciplinary academic team and be part of delivering our ambitious plans. We will be pleased to receive applications from candidates with teaching and research interest in any area of business, management, and leadership, although we are particularly keen to make appointments in the areas of leadership and management, finance and fintech, data analysis, innovation, project management, risk management, operations and supply chain management, and events, tourism and visitor attraction and resort management.

You will have a commitment to developing and delivering high-quality face-to-face and online teaching, have excellent communication skills and an ability to work effectively as part of a high performing team of academic staff in delivering across our range of undergraduate, postgraduate and apprenticeship courses.

You will have the ability to deliver an excellent student experience through creative and innovative learning, and a commitment to pastoral care, as well as actively making an impact in knowledge exchange, innovation, enterprise and/or research.

The Staffordshire Business School sits within our School of Justice, Security and Sustainability, a unique combination of disciplines that is ideally placed to respond to today’s business environment, including the agendas for social justice and sustainable development. You will have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues from other academic disciplines including law, criminology, policing and forensics, and others across the wider university community.

Starting salary will depend on your qualifications and experience but for the Senior Lecturer role you will have significant experience of managing, leading and developing courses, supervision of research projects and knowledge of academic quality assurance processes. You will also be a member of the HE Academy or hold an equivalent teaching qualification.

As an academic staff member, you will exhibit Staffordshire University values in your ‘brilliant and friendly’ attitude and your ‘curious and daring’ approach to teaching. As well as contributing to the delivery of teaching you will be expected to undertake research, consultancy and income generating activities to contribute towards Business School’s strategic priorities.
