We are looking for a passionate champion of human factors and ergonomics as a method of improving patient safety.  You will be joining an existing Department already supported by a Chartered member of the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, as well as a Senior Lecturer in Patient Safety and Simulation’.

Staffordshire University is a leading university for the delivery of health and social care courses with dedicated skills laboratories, immersive suites and simulation facilities based at the Centres of Excellence in Healthcare Education to facilitate student learning as well providing as superb student facilities to enhance the commitment to academic excellence and the facilitation of student learning.

The School of Health and Social Care has put patient safety, human factors and ergonomics at the heart of its strategic plan and is moving to become national leaders in this field.  At the core of ensuring that its graduates become the safest practitioners depends on being able to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they require in the area of human factors. In order to achieve this ambition, the School has developed a Master’s course in Human Factors for Patient Safety and is embedding patient safety in all undergraduate curricula. We are now seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to progress this ambition, with the expectation of undertaking teaching and learning activities on the MSc in Human Factors for Patient Safety and supporting staff to develop human factors and patient safety within their undergraduate courses.

This permanent post is offered as a part-time opportunity, 2½ day per week, and is based at The Centre of Excellence in Healthcare Education, Blackheath Lane Campus, Stafford with travel to the University Shrewsbury and Stoke Campus also expected.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience and knowledge of human factors and patient safety, possess a PhD or equivalent professional standing in a relevant subject area and hold membership of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors. Effective teamwork and excellent communication skills are essential. Experience of working within Higher Education would be beneficial and formal teaching experience is preferred but is not essential.
