 About the role

Located within our new unique Centre for Business, Innovation and Enterprise, the Head of Student and Graduate Employability will lead, develop and deliver the University’s strategy for student and graduate employability services including business start-up support.  This is a key role, building on the University’s growing strengths.

Staffordshire University is the Connected University. A Civic University playing a central and co-ordinating role in social and economic development and recovery following Covid-19. In its next phase, our University will build on its success in working with industry, supporting new businesses and expanding its commercial offer. The new Catalyst Building will provide a sector leading hub for students, staff and businesses, driving research, teaching and knowledge exchange, promoting and supporting entrepreneurship and innovation, with next generation digital innovation at its heart for the benefit of the locality and beyond.

We will provide leadership for creating entrepreneurial thinking and interact with the community and region enabling entrepreneurial cultures to develop and be sustainable. Our success, and their success, will be dependent on the creation of innovation networks and strategic alliances and our interdependence with industry will be central to our offer.

For our students studying in any part of the University they will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, modules, courses and extra-curricular education and training that prepares them for their future work, whether that be self-employment or in employment.

For business, we will provide a talent pipeline of future employees with the skills and experience to support work now and for the future. We will offer upskilling, reskilling for employees and support the launch of supply-chain businesses to fill ‘gaps’.

We are looking for a dynamic individual and team player to lead the strategic development and delivery of the University’s student and graduate employability and business start-up support. The successful candidate will enhance employability through leadership of careers coaching, peer-to-peer mentoring, advice and guidance, student and graduate work experience and student enterprise, business incubation and support. With recent experience of leading change at a senior level, the successful candidate will have a track record of motivating teams to deliver key performance indicators and targets.

The Head of Student and Graduate Employability will be a member of the Centre for Business, innovation and Enterprise senior management team and will line manage the team who have responsibility for delivering a dynamic employability service. They will work alongside colleagues to deliver the Centre’s Strategic Business Plan and associated key performance indicators to support delivery of the University’s aims and ambitions.
