Who is Staffordshire University?

Staffordshire University is an award-winning institution with over 100 years’ experience in delivering excellent higher education. Our main Stoke-on-Trent campus is located in the heart of the UK, with Centres of Excellence located in the towns of Stafford and Shrewsbury.

After a highly successful year in 2019, which included entering THE World University rankings for the first time, securing TEF Gold, and climbing in all the league tables, our University has constantly expanded its physical presence through new and industry-leading building developments and facilities. Looking towards our 2030 strategy, we are now transforming specific business processes to improve the student experience and integrate a wider feeling of inclusion and safety for our on-campus community.

About the Role

Staffordshire University is recruiting a Security Officer to join their busy campus security team in Stoke.

The role works on a shift basis and we require a degree of flexibility as this role is part of a 24/7, 365 day service. The core shift hours for this role are between 6pm – 6am 7 days a week. Rota will vary in shift length due to operational needs.

This is an exciting opportunity and a role like no other! The team plays a pivotal role in the health and safety of staff, students and visitors to the university, as well as providing 24 hour security services. Most importantly, we provide welfare support for students, working closely with wellbeing and other services across the university through our 24 hour provision. The role is fast paced and responsive, with no two days being the same! You will play a key role in developing and fostering relationships with everyone on campus, in order for us to maintain a safe, secure environment. In return we can offer you a generous benefits package including enhanced annual leave entitlement, a comprehensive training package and private pension.

We are currently going through a period of transformation and service improvement, so this is an exciting time to join a diverse and highly skilled team!

Successful candidates will have previous security or other relevant experience. We require exceptional levels of customer service, the ability to be diplomatic in conflict and empathise with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. You must have the ability to work in sometimes challenging situations, remaining calm and acting effectively. You will be a positive individual and committed team player, but with the ability to work independently and on your own initiative. You must be comfortable with technology and computer literate as we are a digital university. As a team we go beyond the traditional security boundaries and as an individual you must be highly skilled and flexible to deal with this challenging and varied role. The ability to embrace change is a must. As a university we consider the right attitudes and behaviours are just as important as experience and skill.

Our department philosophy is to keep our customers at the heart of everything we do and we expect our staff to uphold our values of “Diligent, Kind and Excellent” at all times, linking in to the University’s overall vision, strategy and values.
