Staffordshire University is on a journey to become the foremost modern higher education institution in the UK, with an international reputation for excellence, and we are looking for inspirational and effective people to take us to the next stage.

In 2018 we broke in to the World University rankings for the first time and were named as a top 50 UK university by the Guardian. The quality of our student experience has placed us in the top 10 for teaching quality in the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and in 2019  we achieved a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework.

Many of our students come from areas with low rates of participation in higher education and we continually strive to ensure the courses we offer meet the needs of people and employers. We are expanding our non-traditional, flexible study options, particularly in apprenticeships serving the public sector.
You can join us at a time when we begin the next step of our transformation journey. The new £40m Catalyst Building will deliver 6,500 new apprentices in the next decade, boosting both the local and national economy. The development of our offer to new academic areas and geographic locations will see us expand our reach and make an innovative offer to a new generation of students.

We are a university of and for our community: local, national and global. If you share our values and have the skills to deliver our vision, we want to hear from you.

The Role

We have day and night shifts available on a rota basis, although there is the requirement to work across both. We require a degree of flexibility as this role is part of a 24/7, 365 day service.

This is an exciting opportunity and a role like no other! The team plays a pivotal role in the health and safety of staff, students and visitors to the university, as well as providing traditional 24 hour security services. Most importantly, we provide support for students, working closely with wellbeing and other services across the university through our 24 hour provision. The role is fast paced and responsive, with no two days being the same! You will play a key role in developing and fostering relationships with everyone on campus, in order for us to maintain a safe, secure environment. In return we can offer you a generous benefits package including enhanced annual leave entitlement, a comprehensive training package and private pension.

To be successful

Successful candidates will have previous security or other relevant experience. We require exceptional levels of customer service, the ability to be diplomatic in conflict and empathise with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. You must have the ability to work in sometimes challenging situations, remaining calm and acting effectively. You will be a positive individual and committed team player, but with the ability to work independently and on your own initiative. As a team we go beyond the traditional security boundaries and as an individual you must be highly skilled and flexible to deal with this challenging and varied role

Our department philosophy is to keep our customers at the heart of everything we do and we expect our staff to uphold our values of “Diligent, Kind and Excellent” at all times, linking in to the University’s overall vision, strategy and values.

In return for your dedication we have a competitive benefits package available

  • Competitive incremental rates of Pay
  • Starting from 32 days Annual Leave plus 11 days Bank Holiday and Discretionary days
  • Excellent Pension Scheme
  • Access to continued professional and personal development
  • An opportunity to become part of the wider University community
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Discounted Health & Fitness Facilities on site at the Stoke Campus
  • Discounted Travel by Rail or Bus, with the option of season tickets loans
