About the role

Staffordshire University is a leading University in the UK, with an exciting portfolio of courses, which comprise of a range of highly successful undergraduate and postgraduate programmes delivered on-campus. Our CGI and Visual Effects degree is optimised for students wishing to learn the creative and technical skills required to produce awe-inspiring special visual effects. You would be joining a team of over 60 specialist academics within the department across the fields of games art, concept art, animation, programming, games design, esports and more.

The course has a long-standing reputation in industry, with graduates securing careers across film, television, games and advertising. For the past 3 years, the course has received 100% Overall Satisfaction on the National Student Survey and is recognised by SideFX as a certified Houdini training institution. We take pride in teaching our students to the highest standards of visual effects, both in the software skills such as Nuke or Houdini, but also in filmmaking and pipeline tool development.

Our students enjoy access to top-tier facilities, including a 24 camera motion capture stage, digital cinema cameras (and associated grip and lighting), a 400 node render farm and VPN access to all required software for their use off site. We also have a dedicated team of technical instructors who specialise in the teaching of equipment and software across cameras, recording studios, scanning facilities and more.

The University is ideally positioned in the centre of Stoke-on-Trent, alongside the mainline railway station which offers direct links to both hubs of the creative industries – Manchester and London - right from the doorstep.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, passionate and talented candidate to join the Department of Animation and Visual Effects.

We are looking for experienced candidates in VFX who have demonstrable excellence in a number of VFX skills ideally including the following:

  • Matchmoving and Layout
  • Photogrammetry
  • Colour Science
  • Compositing in Nuke
  • HDR Panorama creation
  • Pipeline Scripting In Python
  • 3D Asset Creation in Maya or Houdini
  • Art Theory
  • Cinema and Stills Camera Operation
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach the VFX and asset production pipeline, along with appropriate design considerations/theory to students. 

Additional Desirable Skills and Experience:

Teaching in a Further or Higher Education setting

On set work e.g. VFX Supervision, Shoot TD, DIT, etc

You would be expected to engage with enterprise activity, as well as developing your individual research and university research profiles. We would also like you to contribute to engagement with schools, colleges and recruitment activities. We ensure the success of our courses through constant meaningful collaboration with the VFX industry, which you will be a part of.

You will be joining a blended teaching environment delivering a variety of online and face to face lectures, classes and tutorials.
