Who is Staffordshire University?

Staffordshire University is an award-winning institution with over 100 years’ experience in delivering excellent higher education. Our main Stoke-on-Trent campus is located in the heart of the UK, with Centres of Excellence located in the towns of Stafford and Shrewsbury.

After a highly successful year in 2019, which included entering THE World University rankings for the first time, securing TEF Gold, and climbing in all the league tables, our University has constantly expanded its physical presence through new and industry-leading building developments and facilities. Looking towards our 2030 strategy, we are now transforming specific business processes to improve the student experience and integrate a wider feeling of inclusion and safety for our on-campus community.

About the role

We are looking to recruit two Full Time Innovation and Enterprise Fellows to work within our School of Digital Technologies and Arts. These roles are partly funded by the European Regional Development fund, delivering activities within the Staffordshire Connected and Intelligent Mobility Innovation Accelerator (SCIMIA) project. SCIMIA aims to improve productivity and profitability of Staffordshire businesses through innovations in software, product design, prototyping and development of new physical products, product components and services in the area of intelligent mobility.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your research knowledge and experience to supporting technical innovation in local SMEs and the wider economic development of the Staffordshire region.  You will work closely with academic colleagues and supervise Innovation Consultants (student/graduate interns) to evaluate research and development challenges and deliver innovation projects for intelligent mobility sectors, industries and markets across road, rail, air and sea.  You will support both SMEs already working in the transport sector to innovate and those in different sectors to translate their business into the intelligent mobility sector.  A key part of the role will be supervising the Knowledge Exchange Leads who will have primary responsibility for delivering the projects.

Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire was one of the fastest growing regional economies in 2020 and is expected to be in the top 10 regions for post-Covid recovery.   Staffordshire University plays a leading role in socio-economic growth and recovery of the region, building on our strengths in digital, manufacturing, materials and services. Part of the Innovation Enterprise Zone, SCIMIA is one of the key projects unlocking innovation-potential in the regional SME base in one of the fastest growing markets and supply chains aligned to ‘intelligent mobility’. Our region is a hotspot for the transport, logistics and mobility sectors which poses significant opportunity for business-university collaborations to drive new innovative solutions. You would be part of the exciting and dynamic cross-university team of academics, researchers and professionals driving enterprise and innovation forward.

These roles will work closely together each taking a lead in intelligent mobility technologies across a range of topics including artificial intelligence and machine learning, data analytics, internet of things, logistics, supply chain, communications, 5G, sensors and control systems, future transport concepts, personal mobility, integrated transport networks, driverless technologies, electric vehicles, energy storage, smart and secure infrastructure.

We are looking to recruit these two technical focused Innovation and Enterprise Fellows to complement and work closely with a separate business focused Innovation and Enterprise Fellow. Collectively, these roles will lead on complementary aspects of intelligent mobility.

Interviews will be taking place on online via MS Teams. The shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further information shortly after the closing date.

In return for your dedication we have a competitive benefits package available

  • Competitive incremental rates of Pay
  • Starting from 29 days Annual Leave (depending on job grade) plus 11 days Bank Holiday and Discretionary days
  • Excellent Pension Scheme
  • Access to continued professional and personal development
