About the role 

The Network & Infrastructure Managers post within Digital Services is a pivotal role that provides management oversight and direction across two technical teams within Digital Services, these being Networking and Infrastructure. These teams are responsible for the development and maintenance of the key systems that make up the foundations on which all our digital staff and student learning systems are built. 

The infrastructure team provision and manage our server estate both on premise and across the Azure and AWS clouds ensuring highly available systems with data that is backed up securely for business continuity whilst ensuring we remain within our budget operating costs. 

The network team provide the digital backbone of the University which many see as the fourth utility service. Providing internet connectivity, wired and wireless services, secure remote access, and telephony services on all Staffordshire University Campuses. 

This role will help create and define overall strategies and objectives across these three technology areas from conception through to service delivery making a significant contribution to the delivery of our digital transformation and 2030 strategy.  This post is responsible for taking the relevant parts of the service plan, combining new digital technologies and translating these into annual team plans. Providing service delivery by Co ordinating work schedules, projects and day to day activities across the teams.

On a daily basis you will ensure that our architectural principles and vendor best practises are implemented to ensure the highest quality of infrastructure and exceptional level of service delivery for our teaching and learning. You will be liaising with 3rd party providers and suppliers to ensure service is within defined contracts. 

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to influence our digital strategy and work on a number of exciting new technology projects to assist Staffs to become the UK’s leading Digital University. This includes Cisco software defined networking, unified communications and hyperconverged infrastructure. 

We are looking for a forward thinking, inspirational leader from an IT background with a proven track record of motivating and developing teams with previous experience of delivery in a number of technology areas outlined above. You will have exceptional communication and customer service skills and a passion for all things Digital to help us innovate and provide creative solutions for our customers at Staffordshire University.

Key initiatives for the Network & Infrastructure team in the next 12 months will be assisting with our 2030 strategy; delivering innovative digital systems that help to make Staffordshire the UK’s leading Digital University and working in project teams with stakeholders across the University delivering projects such our new Student Village.
