Who is Staffordshire University?

We are the Connected University with 100 years of experience and ambition in becoming the UK’s foremost digital Institution. Our main campus is located in Stoke on Trent alongside our Centres of Excellence in Healthcare Education located in Stafford and Shrewsbury. Staffordshire University London’s Digital Institute is our first campus outside the Midlands.

With more than 10,000 Full Time Undergraduate and Postgraduate students on campus, we continue to drive innovation and change, aiming to positively disrupt our sector. For our University, it is about so much more than the numbers. In fact, if there’s one thing that sets us apart, it’s our people who are all #ProudToBeStaffs. Every one of our employees goes above and beyond to deliver on our connected mission, responding to the needs of our students, academic partners, businesses and society.

Over the past 5 years, we have transformed ourselves into a Gold standard provider of teaching and learning, gaining historically high positions in the UK league tables. With digital skills being at our core, we strive for diversity in all its forms and play an important role in our local communities and regional economies.

About the role

During the last few years, we’ve embarked on an ambitious and unique transformation in the Higher Education Sector where we’ve set our stall out to become the UK’s leading Digital University. This isn't just talk, we're putting in real changes to our environment, changes which companies like Microsoft are talking about on a global stage.

As part of this story we need to build new capability to support our Digital Vision and we are now expanding our core skills with a new Solutions Developer role.  If you’re ready to make a difference to our Higher Education environment, be ambitious, brilliant and innovative, we think our Solutions Developer role with Staffordshire University is the way forward. Working within the Digital Solutions team you will be directly involved in building our Digital Vision as well as growing your own skills, knowledge and experience. We’ll pay you a starting salary of at least £24,871 per year (dependent on experience), a high-quality pension, along with all of the usual employee benefits including 32 days annual leave (PLUS Bank Holidays).

We've already been busy changing our environment at pace, embracing an agile mentality, Cloud based services for our infrastructure and looking to innovate for our students and staff with next generation technologies like Artificial Intelligence.

You’ll be working in a close-knit, supportive team helping create new ways for users to interact with the University across our existing mobile and web delivery channels. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to grow their existing skills and help transform the way the University works.

As a Solutions Developer on a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Be working with languages and frameworks such as C#, .NET, JavaScript, NodeJS, React, jQuery, PL/SQL plus SharePoint and other Microsoft development tools;
  • Work with a small, agile team of professionals with a range of skills and focus on delivering the best for our students;
  • Work with some of our innovative products, such as our AI powered student app;
  • Work on the adoption of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) software;
  • Be able to express your creativity and problem-skills;
  • Be a key part of an ambitious, exciting and challenging programme of transformation.

We are keen to hear from customer focused, self-motivated, well organised IT/digital professionals with a passion for future state technologies, an understanding and experience of solutions development and project delivery within a digitally literate and demanding customer base operating in rapidly changing complex customer centric project environment.

Any familiarity you have with Higher Education and related management systems (such as Tribal SITS Student Records System) would be a bonus but in truth we're more interested in meeting innovators - enthusiastic, creative and engaging people.

We think this is a great opportunity, but only for the right person – don't expect to have the world mapped out for you because we're creating things as we go. You’ll need a strong work ethic, real commitment, a mindset that's built around agility and a desire to make a difference. Are you ready to be a top performer?  In terms of application criteria, we’d ideally like to see a good relevant first degree, but equally we’d also like to hear from people who may have equivalent working experience or qualifications.

In return for your dedication, we have a competitive benefits package available

  • Competitive incremental rates of Pay
  • 32 days Annual Leave plus 11 days Bank Holiday and Discretionary days
  • Excellent Pension Scheme
  • Access to continued professional and personal development
  • An opportunity to become part of the wider University community
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Discounted Health & Fitness Facilities on site at the Stoke Campus
  • Discounted Travel by Rail or Bus, with the option of season tickets loans

We reserve the right to close any vacancies when we are in receipt of sufficient applications. All applicants are advised to complete and submit your applications as soon as possible.
