Staffordshire University is looking for an ambitious and inspirational individual to join our Digital Services cybersecurity team for the post of Security Analyst on our Stoke-on-Trent site.

Staffordshire University is the Connected University. We’re connected to the needs of our students, to business and to society. We transform lives, enrich futures and play a pivotal role in connecting our city, our county and our region. Our city campus in Stoke-on-Trent is the University’s nerve centre, with specialist Centres of Excellence in Stafford and Shrewsbury, and a global network of more than 20,000 people study our degrees internationally. Staffordshire University has climbed seven places in the 2019 Guardian University League Tables – taking it to its best ever position, and also entered the Times Higher Education world university ranking for the first time.

Staffordshire University operates large scale systems in the cloud ad on site, with many systems containing sensitive personal data, but operating within a network that needs to be open and accessible to our student community. Information security must constantly balance these competing demands and cyber security team members need to think differently to deliver flexible solutions that work for all stakeholders.

The Security Analyst will monitor the effectiveness of security controls, by undertaking automated and manual vulnerability assessments, monitoring network usage, assess the effectiveness of firewalls, reviewing system access for business applications and computer installations. As part of the role the security analyst will identify threats to the confidentiality, integrity, availability, accountability and relevant compliance of information systems.

Key initiatives for the security team in the next 12 months include rollout of multifactor authentication to staff and students, managing unstructured data, aligning with ISO27001, and building a security community within the University.

Digital Services is a central department that provides vital IT services which underpin all the learning, teaching and University business, ensuring that we are a truly connected University.
