The School of Design, Technologies and Arts has been established to provide high calibre education with full time and part time courses offered at undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and doctoral levels which are delivered flexibly to enable students to continue their education at the same time as working.

This is an exciting stage in the development of our apprenticeship provision, and work has already begun on the siting of a new, state-of-the-art Apprenticeship and Skills Hub, which is set to open in 2020.

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering role will be a key role in the design and development of new apprenticeship programmes to match the needs of local industry. monitoring the progress and assessment of learners, undertaking apprenticeship programmes within the Engineering Department.

To consider this post ideally you will have previous experience supporting apprentices or other relevant professional experience.

As Senior Lecturer/Lecturer and subject expert, you will be expected to contribute to the University’s research outputs. You will teach and assess students across a range of levels and courses. You will need to look for opportunities to contribute to our teaching and learning strategies to explicitly enhance the student experience through the use of digital technology. You must be an enthusiastic, reliable and resourceful academic with ambition to engage with local industry and support the University’s strategy on apprenticeships.

Additionally, you should have vocational experience of assessing qualifications including compiling learner portfolios, delivering and assessing management qualifications. Knowledge of working with relevant professional bodies will be an added benefit. You must have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, as travel is a requirement of the role.

The University is keen to support staff in achieving high standards of pedagogy in order to facilitate effective student learning. All newly appointed full-time and fractional contracted members of academic staff who have less than three years teaching experience and do not have the equivalent qualification from another University, are required to undertake and complete the most appropriate route from either the Academic Professional Apprenticeship (APA), Post Graduate Certificate in Higher and Professional Education (PgCHPE) or Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Education in Healthcare (PgDPEH). This must be commenced within 24 months of appointment as a condition of their employment with Staffordshire University. If you are shortlisted, the chair of the interview panel will explain this further. All members of academic staff will be expected to achieve Fellowship of the HEA within an agreed timescale after commencement.
