This is an exciting opportunity to lead the new Department of Design and Engineering, within the School of Creative Arts and Engineering. An experienced and highly capable academic and manager, your creative practice/industry and research experience will inform your work across the broad range of disciplines in the Department. 

The Department includes Ceramics, Industrial Design, 3D Designer Maker, Graphic Design, Illustration, Fashion Design and Surface Pattern Design; Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Aeronautical and Transport Engineering programmes. You will be a specialist from one of our taught subject areas, and alongside managing the Department, you will contribute to teaching at Undergraduate or Postgraduate level, continue to research, and be a member of the School Management Team.

The School of Creative Arts and Engineering has a very diverse range of subjects including both Arts and Humanities as well as Design and Engineering. Key research and practice areas across the School include Renewable Energy, Plastic Electronics, Smart Cities and IoT, Mechatronics and Communication Engineering; creative practice across Art, Design and Drama; International Relations and Security Studies, Human and Physical Geography. The School’s diverse portfolio is connected through our overarching theme of Lived Environment, enabling interdisciplinary collaborations and forthcoming programme developments such as Architecture and Digital Humanities.

You will have a clear vision for academic excellence and industry relevance, a keen eye for developments and opportunities across a range of academic fields, and an enthusiasm for collaboration across a connected curriculum.
