About the role 

Be part of an exciting, new and significant learning and teaching development at Staffordshire University! As part of the University’s continued commitment to an exceptional, innovative and forward-looking teaching, learning and student experience, we are further enhancing our expertise in pedagogic practice, developing a key role as the Head of Academic Quality Development.

This role will be central to leading our staff development, course concept and design processes and innovative approaches to learning and teaching. In the initial phase post-appointment, the role holder will need to lead our Quality Assurance and Enhancement processes, leading and managing our team of Quality Managers to ensure that we deliver on our quality assurance commitments. Senior experience of leading a Quality Assurance portfolio to meet University priorities and sector-wide requirements is therefore essential. 

The role holder will then transition more directly into leading the Academic Development portfolio to support the University’s ambition for delivery of our 2030 academic strategy and our vision for the future of learning and teaching. The role will be key to supporting our academic staff to maximise the opportunities of our future pedagogies.

Reporting to the Director for Learning and Teaching, this role will also work with the Director of the Staffordshire Centre of Learning and Pedagogic Practice, contributing to the work of the Centre as well as facilitating the transfer of our pedagogy research into our core teaching and learning activity.

Applications are sought from very enthusiastic, team-orientated, flexible individuals with excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and presenting skills.  Applicants should have a first degree in an appropriate academic discipline.  Relevant experience in both Quality Assurance and Academic Development at a senior level in a University context are essential. 

Recent experience of producing Quality Assurance and Quality Enhancement guidance, policy and principles in HE is essential, and demonstration of engagement with scholarship and/or research (evidenced by successful grant applications, recent publications in peer reviewed journals, book chapters, conference presentations etc.) is desirable. Experience of developing policy and guidance in response to relevant HE sector regulators would be welcomed, as would a teaching qualification (and/or Fellowship of AdvanceHE).
