          <description>Type: Research | Department: Business School | Location: Stoke campus | Closing Date: 21 May 2012 |
Staffordshire University Business School invites applications for&amp;nbsp;two scholarships to be divided between part-time study for the MSc Economics for Business Analysis (EBA) and related research projects for the Centre for Applied Business Research (CABR).

The MSc Economics for Business Analysis (EBA) is a rigorous postgraduate Economics Award in applied economics with a focus on business. Modules cover the core of any masters degree in economics: microeconomics (Semesters 1 and 2); macroeconomics (Semester 1); and econometrics (Semesters 1 and 2). The business emphasis of the award is further reflected in personnel economics (Semester 2) as well as in business finance and accounting (Semesters 1 and 2). The award is completed by an individually supervised dissertation in which knowledge and skills gained on the award are applied to a substantial empirical and/or policy-oriented investigation. (A number of these have won international prizes and/or have been published in scholarly journals.) The MSc provides postgraduate training for economics and business graduates with interests and career intentions in banking, finance and insurance as well as government. It also prepares graduates for PhD research in applied economics. This Award was reviewed by the Quality Assurance Agency and received a ranking of &amp;ldquo;Excellent&amp;rdquo; with a mark of 24 out of 24. The MSc runs from September 2012 to October 2014.

The Centre for Applied Business Research (CABR) provides a wide range of applied business research expertise and knowledge transfer to private and public sector clients. Our research and projects typically focus on combinations of issues linked with

  SME development

business development through innovation and diversification

  traditional manufacturing industries

  entrepreneurship

  sustainability in business

evaluation of policy and programme effectiveness

Of increasing importance to us is funding from EU funding streams. Currently, we are partners on major EU projects concerning innovation policy and renewable energy.

We anticipate that research assistance will include contributing to &amp;ndash; hence, learning about &amp;ndash; research funding applications (particularly to European sources). The scholarship covers all course fees and pays a stipend to cover living costs at an annual rate of &amp;pound;10,450 during the first 12 months and &amp;pound;10,610 thereafter. The scholarships are split between two days a week on course study and three days a week on centre research.

Scholarship 1 will start on 1 September 2012

Scholarship 2 - we would like to appoint a candidate as soon as possible and, to undertake related project work in the period before September 1st 2012. This period will be subject to an enhanced stipend.

The minimum qualification level is a good honours degree (2:1 or above) in economics or business studies with substantial components of economics and quantitative skills. We would also be pleased to consider candidates already holding a masters degree in other relevant areas who wish to acquire training in economics and experience in applied research. Overseas applicants must, of course, be fluent in English (at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent).

Overseas students may well be interviewed by Skype so please ensure you have an account set up.

Overseas students from outside the EU should consider the length of time that may be required to obtain a UK visa.
